Lunch in Paris: A Love Story, with Recipes

Hello friends!  How was everyone's weekend?

I finished a wonderful book this weekend that I highly recommend to all you Francophiles out there.  Elizabeth Bard's memoir, Lunch in Paris: A Love Story, with Recipes, tells the story of how the author learned to "live and eat à la française," while building a life in Paris with her French amour, Gwendal.  The book is both a love story and a celebration of France's rich culinary traditions, but as the Publisher's Weekly review notes, the book's underlying theme is "how to build an adult life that reconciles societal pressure, personal ambition, cultural dissonance, and true happiness."  And who can't relate to that?

Now
that I've finished Lunch in Paris,I need a new book, so tell me: what are you reading these days?  I'd love to hear your  suggestions.

xo,

Hi Ashley! I was really moved by Eating Animals. It was a major factor in my commitment to giving up animal products. And yes, I'm still loving my planner pad! I've been meaning to post a review...thanks for reminding me!

I'm reading a very intriguing book about pelvic floor health -

Wild Feminine by Tami Lynn Kent.

Also, one of my favorite foodie novels is The Food of Love by Anthony Capella. It's too cute!

Can't wait to read Lunch in Paris, it's on my list.

xoxo

Lavanya - I like Coetze, so I will check that out. Thanks!

Melita - I have read Omnivore's Dilemma and found it really interesting. Pollan does a good job of weaving together all of the various factors involved. I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Labellagorda - Oooh, I loved Bridges of Madison County. I didn't realize there was a sequel!

Jessica - Wild Feminine sounds really interesting! I must admit it's not a concept I've given a lot of thought to, but now I'm intrigued. And The Food of Love sounds great! I'll check it out.

i have seen this book several times at Barnes...good to know that it is worth while. i am always looking for my next read.

currently i am reading Hope's Edge by the mother and daughter team, Francis and Anna Lappe. it is a few years old but wanted to read it before i tackled Anna's new book, Diet for a Hot Planet. it's packed full of good info, so don't even think about opening it with a highlighter or some post its!
